Principal Geologist of Bastillion Resources – Consultant
Paul Karpeta has over 30 years’ experience in exploration for and mining of gold, uranium, iron ore, manganese, nickel, copper, cobalt, phosphates, heavy mineral sands, rare earths and energy minerals (coal and hydrocarbons) on several continents (Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australasia). Experience includes sedimentological, structural and volcanological studies on mineral deposits, remote sensing image analysis, field mapping, geophysical interpretation, drill campaign planning and execution (RAB, RC & DD), sampling protocols and documentation. He has also put together three training courses on sedimentology, structural geology and volcanology as applied to minerals exploration and exploitation, having been responsible for training of junior geologists in a number of mining houses.
Paul is currently working on two iron ore projects: Malawi and DRC. Previous clients have included Newmont, Anglo-Gold Ashanti, Goldfields, Yamana, Castillian and several Canadian and Australian juniors. Work on ferrous metal deposits includes deposits in Brazil (Amapa State and Quadrilatero Ferriferro), DRC, South Africa, Uganda and Australia. Before joining Bastillion, Paul worked for Goldfields, Corex (oil consultancy), Gencor, Forsayth (Australia), Anglo American and the (now) Council for Geosciences.
